First blog post!

Hey everyone!

While doing some work on my website today, I figured I'd get this blog started.

Here, I'll be posting general updates on my upcoming game, Eavor!

Although this week has been pretty slow for development (I've legit had like 2 hours to work on any game this week 😢), we still got some features implemented!

So here's a list of some things I added within the past week...

New Features

  • Worked on lighting system with normal maps (I'll need a more in-depth shader for this in the future, but the lighting side of things will stay pretty minimal for a while)

  • More work on Akiesto!

Akiesto is one of the first "bosses" in Eavor, and he has been so fun to work on! Since I've already finished the model, rigging, and most of the animations, the last thing to do is add more complex AI (using the popular Beehave plugin for Godot), and add more attacks over time!

  • Various GUI fixes, such as properly displaying healthbars without applying lighting effects to them. I also made a really cool parchment shader effect that covers the screen when you pause the game! I have a feeling it doesn't fit the game super well, but it definitely looks cool either way :)

  • Other various bug fixes...

So not a ton of stuff, but we're still making progress! 😎

I'll also share some of my "next up" tasks, in case you're interested in following the development process:

Next up in the TODO

  • Completely finish Akiesto's AI and attack animations/hitboxes

  • Finish creating my "Hitbox Adder" Godot plugin so that I can add hitboxes more easily to future enemies

  • Create the 3D treasure chest model, animate it, and put it into the game (with VFX), since it's still a temporary sprite at the moment

  • Add some more map generator resources for testing/showcasing before the kickstarter goes live. In the near future, I'll be switching over to a different map generator system (which is actually a plugin I'm working on), but for now I'm just gonna stick with my current implementation to save on time

Anyway, that's about it for this weeks blog post - hope ya'll have a good weekend! :)
